I tried using 3dmax before it and found it to be confusing as hell. I picked up on Blender rather fast and it helped that there are tons of tutorials around to learn from. I have 3 versions of 3dmax on my computer because I need them for certain things now but I still make all my models in Blender first.

Well.. it's no wonder that there are so many tutorials in the net for blender, it's very complicated to start with.. i stick to Cinema 4D which is very intuitive.. but each to his own^^

I have the same problem as Drake with Blender: I don't effn get it :P

I preffer 3ds max personally, it's got lots of stuff, but usually you only need move, rotate, scale, "convert to editable mesh" and extrude or bevel+emboss.

Doing the basics like Ion said are actually pretty easy in Blender. I use version 2.49 but there is newer versions which they changed some things in which I haven't bothered playing around with yet.The hotkeys are pretty easy to remember. E for extrude, S for scale, R for rotate, G for grab(move). If you want to rotate, scale, move, or whatever on a certain axis, you press the corresponding key and then x,y, or z for the axis. So if I want to scale something along the X axis, I just press S to scale and then X to scale along the X axis. Tab button puts you in edit mode where you can edit the vertices of an object. In version 2.49 and below you press the space bar to bring up a menu for various things like adding new shapes, edit options etc. In 2.5 you press Shift-A to add shapes. Those are the real basics anyways and I just found Blender a lot easier to pick up than the others. I am starting to learn more things in 3dmax slowly as I need to. Like you guys said though, to each their own. As long as some cool ass artwork comes from what ever you guys are using hehe.

I hope to find some time soon to play around with designing a ship. I usually do more low poly modeling for in-game models but I've been wanting to try a more detailed model.
