Well, in terms of accuracy the Longer barrel does not matter in a vacum since the element that makes an bullet inaccurate is when it tilts and thereby deflects air in one direction
( making it drift the opposite way) In space it does not matter in what direction the Bullet is facing since there are no air to deflect, therefor there is no Drift in space... In terms of bullet penetration, the bullet does most damage if they hit the target with the point facing it. so if your barrel is moving very fast, like in a minigun that he drew. when the first part of the bullet exits the barrel it will go in a straight line, but then the back of the bullet leaves. and since the barrel now have moved a bit it will induce a force onto the bullet to tumble around it's own axis. and since there is no air this won't affect the precision of the bullet ( it wont drift) but instead it might hit the target sideways, not doing alot of Penetration. Since the bullet doesn't accelerate after leaving the barrel ( well it does but only a few inches) if u have a longer barrel ur bullet will gain higher speeds. here is a small ( small ;P) illustration.

actually, the spin of the bullets and their inertia makes a bullet fly straight, not the air. And as far as I am concerned, rotating bullets have a greater impact power (even tho, lower penetration power)

Thats very much true yes. The athmosphere creates friction. And the amount of body surface exposure comes into play in the scenario you described. Although I'm sure someone could give us a nice formulated sentence to pull all of that together. -- I think the body looks good. A bit thin though if you don't mind some gentle input. Free form modeling or are you working with a faction in mind? Last edited by Pan; 05-02-2010 at 21:53. |

Im Free form modeling, im having trouble getting the Tyi look going when im modeling for that faction.
Thin? u mean that it seems a bit brittle? yeah i get that too.. im trying to figure out how to beef up the thickness and still keeping it look "Agile". English is not my native tounge so im having some vocabulary problems ;D And btw Input is great, it's the best way for me to become better in what im doing. my plans is to get into a 3d graphics university here in sweden this fall. |

Try to make the wing look like its build of a lot of parts and not one piece.

I have been thinking, gatling guns could actually work in space, I might have 2 countermeasures :
a) if a small charge on the bullet ignites when it leaves the barrel, it could counter the spin caused by the moving barrel and because the barrel has a constant speed the charge should always be the same to stop the spinning. The charge could be activated by an electronic thingy (dunno the right word, English isn't my 1st language) on the end of the barrel when the bullet would start spinning. b) magnetism, add a small, not moving magnet at the end of the barrel to make the bullet fly straight again. The magnet(s) wont get heated up because they'll never even touch it. 90walosk, might try a bigger hull? or a wider one.

A little late answer, haven't been using this forum actively for a while.
The program I used to make that "model" was Modo 401. |
