Hiya fellow prophets!
Just though i would ask if we have any other Wing commander fans out there.. Got a tear in my eye yesterday when i glanced over towards my shelf and saw the whole wing commander series standing there all proud (and the privateer series ofcourse :) ) thought about installing the original first but realized that i would have a hard time fitting the 5.1/4 floppys into my dvd drive. :D

LOL! I think you'll find a lot of those here. But I will admit to no longer having any of the games anymore.

I was so much a big fan of the Wing Commander series & Privateer. Also brings back memories of the game called Elite.

Good old times... the pioneers of space shooters.
A few months ago I even looked for a windows version of privateer to try it out again... well... unfortunately with max 640x480 resolution I couldn't really recongnize anything. Instead I started X3TC, its pretty good. But with BP I expect to get back those good old memories of WC & Privateer! :cool:

i loved the kilrathy's face on that game.
I want a Wing Commander MMO and I will die a happy man :) Absolutely loved those games and owed and played them all. I think EA was dumb to let the franchise just die off. Yeah they release WC Arena for the Xbox 360 (which is one of there top live games) and still nothing on the way of making another.
Best of the games for me was WC3 the Kilrathi and story was great.

I just realized i am sitting on the original midi files for the Kilrathi empire etc if anyone wants them. One of the main reasons BP appeals to me has to be the shiver it sends down my spine in relation to the WC series. I remember showing how cool it was with VGA grafics to my nextdoor neighbour (who only had monocrome the sucka!) and both of us saying "one day like maybe 2 or 3 people could play this game like with each other.. wow that would be cool". Im no prophet but ...daaaadaaaa

I got hooked on WC late, but I loved it...played WC3 and 4 all the way through, as well as Privateer 2...I played about a bit with one and two when they rereleased it in the Kilrathi Saga set. I've only played Privateer once or twice. I played a lot of WC Armada, although by the time I had gotten a hold of it, the network set-up was seriously outdated, so my friends and I never were able to get the multiplayer going. I tried to play Prophecy, but my system at the time wasn't up to the challenge, and by the time I got one that could run it, I had lost the disk.
So I suppose the short answer is, yes, I loved the series :p
It will make me too noob to ask what exactly is Wing Commander :o ?

Ok. This is the first mission of the German version of Wing Commander 3 when they started using live action. You can find other scenes there as well.
By the way, notice how everything is integrated into the controls. This also illustrates what I mean obout us being spoiled by 3rd person view. These cockpit views take up more than the screen we we have for this game. And see if you can find some privateer screens. Everyone raves about how they were the best games, yet you give someone the same stuff with better graphics, and it's all "oh noes! the cockpit is in the way." I've said it before, but I wonder how real fighter pilots deal with that pesky cockpit.

I loved wing commander as well, when I was growing up I mastered the art of going through asteroid fields and mine fields with afterburners on, and these were for the very first wing commander games too where it was real possibility of crashing into a object and dying, but I played them on the SNES not computer, I got a computer some what late in my childhood.

Wing Commander 3 had the porn star Ginger Lynn in the cutscenes :D
I was a huge WC goon back in the day. I played those games so many times but the classics were WC and 2 and their secret missions. I loved the spin off games, Privateer. Man, now those were some awesome twitch combat games. When the WC movie came out I was so horribly let down. Nothing in the movie remotely resembled the WC universe. :((

i was TOTALLY hooked on privateer and righteous fire. i must have played for like 3 weeks before i found new detroit and actually entered the story line. needless to say, my transport ship was maxed with money in the bank.. >=)
then righteous fire came out with its gun coolers and shield rechargers and whanot..GAWD i loved it.
i remember buying priv 2, but not being able to get it to work correctly. i dont remember why tho.
ive been playing eve online because its like privateer, you can go anywhere and do anything, but its so political now...and take SO freaking long to train skills it got boring.
i also had hoped freelancer was to be the new privateer, but i was disappointed in the 3rd person, mouse driving game. i hear you can use joysticks now? (like 10 years later..lol)
but back on topic..WC and privateer games were SO fun. i miss privateer and RF.
I had never heard from wing commander in my life, so last week I searched it and found the full movie on youtube. I watched it and enjoyed it alot. Bit retro but has a nice concept and story.

The Movie wasn't to much like the games though, I don't think in the games they had the Pilgrim race.

I have an old 5.1/4 inch drive on my shelf for situations just like this....

I have played all and still have all of the Wing Commander games and Arena, academy, privateer 1-2, getting misty here and a dos machine to play them on. lol With a Voodoo 5 card had to replace the voodoo 3 brings a tear to my eye.

Hey another big WC saga fan here :)
Played the first one on Amiga 500, changing discs at every mission load :)
Wing Commander had the best atmosphere, and its a truly epic game!

I may have to plug in my old Thrustmaster Afterburner HOTAS again :)...the trigger is broken though, shoot :O
I had Privateer - Gemini Gold for a couple of years now.
It is nearly the same as the original (as intended) BUT the ships do not load equipment the same way.
For instance you cannot fit the tractor beam where you want, and cannot change the weapon type on the turret.
