HI

So I've got a AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 5000+ that runs at 2.61, and I was wondering if that'll bottleneck a 9800GT or if I can even think about doing a dual-SLI of that card.

Any help is appreciated!

Depends on there Graphics Engine if its CPU heavy or relies on GPU. After all Unreal plays better with more CPU Power but can be offset with GPU.
but you can test by playing one of the demos from "Gamebryo"(the Engine developer) http://www.emergent.net/en/Multimedia/Demos/

What? I don't think you understood my question. >_>

I need to know if a 9800GT will be bottlenecked by my 2.61Hz processor to act like a 9600 or something, and if dual-sli is possible at all.

Be aware that for SLI, you will need an Nvidia northbridge on your motherboard. Personally, I suggest against SLI, as it only gives at most a 30% increase in framerate, with diminishing returns for each additional videocard, as well as microstuddering issues when using more than one GPU. I do not believe that your processor will bottleneck your system, unless you're playing at resolutions beyond 1920x1200. My advice is to not buy a second video card, but rather upgrade to a newer single GPU solution. SLI is not worth the money, it's more economical to replace your card with a GTS250 (129.99 US) or a card using the GT200 card (169.99+ US).

And from what I've heard, recent ATI cards are also a very attractive offer.

It's a good question for the client too. I'm running 64 bit Vista Home Premium with an AMD 64 bit Phenom CPU, so it'd really be nice to start seeing game devs - particularly BP utilizing it.

Ive got a spare PC that runs an Athlon 4600+ and an 8800GTS 512 very well. Im getting just over 10k 3d marks '06 so its not bottlenecked at all.

that being said, no your GPU wont be bound by your CPU at all with a 9800GT. It will run fine. In fact, you could very well step up to a GTX 275 or an ATI 4870 and still be ok.

I run a GTX 260 with an old Socket 939 4800+ and it works out fine. Dual core CPUs still have the best gaming performance because games aren't the best at multithreading. It's a different story when you multitask.
