I saw this in the gameplay trailer's login screen, and it's been mentioned a couple times on the forums, but does anyone actually know what this is about, or is it all just speculation at this point? Have the devs said anything?

I for one would love it if the MMO portion of the game wasn't all there is to it. Even just flying around in gorgeous 3D space with no gameplay content would be nice. Too many MMORPGs have only the online subscription content...but what about the price you paid for the actual game? If you decide to let your monthly subscription lapse, your game sits on a shelf forever and you can't do anything with it. Seeing a SinglePlayer option gives me hope that someone's fixing that problem.

Of course I wouldn't expect it to be very deep or overshadow the online portion; the MMO should obviously be the main attraction. But even if it were just a free demo area or some brief story content, it would be nice to at least have that option.

I haven't actually seen that. But like you said, for those who cancel their subscription the game turns to a dust collector. A free roaming experience through the game would be better then nothing :)

would be cool if you could do single player missions or storyline missions offline.

Some sort of survival mode or scenario mode would be interesting - take one of your pilot's ships and dog fight to survive waves of enemies, or have to engage forces around a fleet of capital ships fighting over a system without any benefits being provided to your online account, only your offline carbon copy.

Neocron had a very nicely made single player demo complete with Voice actors the main game never got.

The main game then got quite a bland (forgive me) Single player offline tutorial available to use.

Maybe we'll see something like this used in Black Prophecy :)

I think the single player mode ist only a tutorial to learn this game.
This is a MMO, how i'm playing a MMO? To play whit another players. :p

I'd honestly say - sure, if it can be done with great ease, do it.

However, don't 'waste' your valuable time creating single player modes when the actual MMO element of the game (let's face it, that's what we're all waiting for) still needs so much work to complete!
