View Full Version : Pure Speculation regarding PvP/PvM

Okay; first of all, hello everyone. ;)

It’s great to see Black Prophecy looking extremely polished for a game in Alpha testing. There’s been much talk and speculation over how certain features will be implemented, and over how the game’s going to pan out.

So; I thought it might prevent every thread being filled with speculation and guesswork to have a thread dedicated to it!

So, here are my thoughts/predictions:

Black Prophecy will have ‘Safe Sectors’. Certain trade hubs and NPC controlled stations will be here. These will be the starter zones, where the factions ‘live’. There will be missions a plenty, and tutorials galore here, and there will be ZERO PvP in these sectors. Think of it as Plaza 1, but for both races.

There will be PvP sectors/War zones. Players can build or compete for ownership of stations out here. PvP is open, and there MAY be penalties in place for killing the same faction, etc. Clans/Corps will be able to place turrets in sectors they own within the vicinity of their stations.

PvP sectors/War zones will have NPC’s flying about – to give us an option to level up with that extra sense of danger, ie. Not instanced.

Missions will be, in the most part; instanced. This will prevent players from being ganked whilst trying to level up and earn money; thus leaving the PvP for the people that want it.

There will be group, instanced PvP missions, which will earn XP and rewards. Games like World of Utter Gaycraft sport these. Players will join an ‘Instant Action’ list to jump straight into the next available instanced battle against other players.

And finally – multi-controlled capital ships
Personally, I don’t believe this will be possible. It certainly looks like it from the video, but I think it more likely that the pilot will be jumping between turrets using F1, F2, F3 etc. If they have implemented this, and we CAN team up to fly a Capital ship, then wow. Just plain wow.

So yeah, what do you think from what you’ve seen so far?

I agree with the safe sectors but I would like to see more open style universe where you can do what you want. This is a twitch based game so your actual skills are what is going to beat people. Yeah ship loadout will factor in there but a person 5-10 levels lower could actually beat you in a fight. Instance combat and missions should be limited or least only done when you have to retrieve objects or do some escort missions.

You are in factions so if they wanted to they could limit in faction fighting to certain areas so people can level but engagements between opposite factions should be able to happen anywhere.

I think instancing ruined Age of Conan personally (besides the fact the game was unfinished). Now some instancing is needed for certain types of quests and boss only engagements. But outside of that it should stay open.

You should be able to go invade a Tyi space station or clan base and destroy it with your buddies if you want to. just like you could be farming some asteriods and you can be jumped and killed. It's part of life. This type of open world promotes teamwork and socializing to group and have people watch your back.

im assuming that to play as a gunner on a cap ship... it would require docking with it... then a unique ship docking bay interface would appear but only giving u an option to hop in an available gun turret or undock in your ship.... then u would appear in a turret cockpit if you had chosen one

a lil off topic and what not but what happens when you die or loose a ship?

and if you and ur buddies are in one cap ship and that gets destroyed are all the other ships lost as well?

what would be cool is if the cap ships had a hanger and storage so that clans didn't even have to go to the stations to change ship and get the items. but its a great risk to loose every thing when a fight occurs.

also one last thing, if players own stations whats to stop other players coming and destroying it while owner/ clan members are logged?

Personally I prefer instances and safe zones but only for beginner trade stations and Big Boss battles, Because I quit Eve for being mashed every 5 seconds due to poor poor trade routes and being totally out-gunned.

I agree about that its not always the ship/stat's that counts when in a twitch game (Planetside for example) as you could kill a level 30 player with the most certs with nothing but a pea shooter if done right, But there should also be cease fire zones. Either by weapon locks which would be a little heavy handed or by Patrol ships or defence grids.

by what they say in Modular ships and customisation do they actually mean i can move the cockpit to the back of the ship and engines up front or is it more you can have these pieces but only in this order/tree. (engines to main hull only and not bolted on to the cargo bays (if visual))?

the parts are fixed in place but can be replaced but other modules to make it work/look different.
